Description
The recall concerns vehicles, equipped with 1.3 and 1.6 engines, produced from 1 January 2001 to 5 January 2006 (2002 to 2006 model year) at KOSAI factory in Japan. The chassis numbers of the affected vehicles arefrom JSAERC11S00100525 to JSAERC11S00302344 (1.3 5D),from JSAERC31S00103151 to JSAERC31S00308988 (1.6 5D), from JSAERD31S00100418 to JSAERD31S00303670 (1.6 5D 4x4), from JSAERA11S00100004 to JSAERA11S00200827 (1.3 4D) andfrom JSAERA31S00100034 to JSAERA11S00300244 (1.6 4D).
Risk
The affected vehicles are equipped with the gasoline engine and 5 speed manual transmission. Due to an improper shape of the shift cable clip that keeps the gearshift cable attached to the gearshift lever, the shift cable clip can contact the gearshift lever housing if excessive lateral force is applied when shifting to first gear. Repeated shifting in this manner can eventually cause the shift cable clip to break. If the shift cable clip breaks, the gearshift cable can become disconnected from gearshift control lever, resulting in loss of the ability to change transmission gears.
