Description

Explosive science box (15 experiments possible) containing several chemical substances and accessories (safety goggles, balloons, etc.). The product was sold online, in particular via Amazon.

Risk

The rubber of the red balloons releases an excessive amount of nitrosatable substances (measured total value: 3.99 mg/kg) which generate nitrosamines. Nitrosamamines may cause cancer through ingestion or dermal exposure. A child could be exposed to them when touching or putting the product in the mouth. The design of the safety goggles is inappropriate to protect against droplets. As a consequence, the user could suffer damage to sight from exposure to chemicals. The product does not comply with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive, the relevant European standards EN 71-4 and EN 71-12.
